What is the food pyramid

The food pyramid is a very rough guide to eating right, and was devised by the Food and Drug Administration or FDA about 20 years ago in response to increasing incidences of obesity levels and lack of nutritional awareness among the public in America.

Since then, it has been adopted by other health ministries of other countries as a good model for nutrition. It basically advocates eating more complex carbohydrates, and a good quantity of vegetables and fruits, while limiting consumption of meat, especially of fats, to the least possible. The food pyramid is easily understood, and can easily be adopted by people everywhere. It must not be confused with other diets like the Atkins Diet or the Pritikin Diet, for example.

Though that does save time, and the food tastes good, it is not doing much for your health. This is okay once in a while, but it should be the exception rather than the rule. It is important to develop healthy eating habits that are going to stay with you and your kids.
